Someone with one system of record always knows which unreality is truth. Someone with two systems is never quite sure.

As tech workers, when we tell ourselves, “I have to do this.” We are dodging accountability. Even when the downside risk of a decision is dire, it is still ours to make. The societal and environmental consequences — both intended an unintended — are on us. That’s the job.

I try to walk a path between “disagree and commit” and “we need total alignment”. Within whatever time I can make. I gather information. Consult people effected by the decision. Create options. If possible, break the decision into smaller ones and iterate. Then I act.
